Yup, I’m about to try something new again. This time, it’s amigurumi. I’ve seen so many of these adorable little things, and I can’t help but think my girls would love them. The clincher was that I came across a pattern for an amigurumi Stitch on Craftsy today, and I love Stitch. Yes, I am a big kid at heart. I have three stuffed Stitch toys of my own that my kids have repeatedly tried to steal from me and gotten nowhere. They have a number – and it’s a rather high percentage – of other stuffies that they’ve stolen and I’ve let them get away with it, but Stitch is mine.
I have most of the required materials already on hand; the only thing I don’t have is the actual stuffing, but I have time, since I have to do the crochet work before it can be stuffed anyway. I thought this weekend would be a good time to try this. I need a break from my books, and amigurumi dolls are supposed to be quick projects. I’m looking forward to trying it, after dinner tonight. Of course, I’m going to watch some YouTube videos before I do anything. And I will have to do some cleaning after dinner, too, I’m sure. I’m making meatball subs for dinner, and I don’t imagine that those are one of my wiser ideas with a five-year-old and a nine-year-old. I fully expect tomato sauce to be everywhere, including my walls on their way to the bathroom to wash up. Still, I know how to crochet, and have done tons of baby blankets over the years, and a bedspread once, but I don’t know how complicated the stitches are for amigurumi, so I’ll be finding that out firsthand. With luck, it won’t be so bad!
Have any of you ever tried amigurumi? Did you find it easy or difficult? What materials have you used to stuff them? Please comment…I’m gonna need all the help I can get!
